Having the correct balance of capacity and spread of capability in a vessel fleet is critical to being able to bid and carry out the work that is emerging in the global market place.
Subsea 7's current fleet is made up of 17 vessels with a mix of capability across Subsea field development and IRM activity.
An $800m investment programme is ongoing in new equipment and assets that will see 7 new vessels joining the fleet over a 24 month period and result in an overall fleet of 21 vessels.
Not only will this increase our overall capacity but it is strategically targeted with new technology and capability to service deep and ultra deepwater water markets.
Of these new vessels, in particular the Seven Oceans (delivered on schedule in July 2007) with her deepwater rigid pipelay capability of up to 3,000 metres water depth and the Seven Seas with her flex-lay / jay lay deepwater capability, gives us access to markets that we would not previously have been able to service.
The Seven Atlantic, a state-of-the-art diving support vessel, currently being built specifically to service a six year contract with Shell for its North Sea IRM business, has helped reinforce our position within this market for the foreseeable future.
