Vanessa Xavier, Engineer Level 1: Rio de Janerio

I began my trainee programme in May 2004 and although I was not sure if I would be hired by the company I had high expectations. The big difference in Subsea 7 is the value and investment made in their professionals. The trainee is really trained to be hired by the company and act as an Engineer. I was hired in April 2005 and I am delighted to be doing the work that I really enjoy.

Jørn Waalen, Norway

I started working as an Installation Engineer for Subsea 7 in 2004, after completing my engineering degree in marine technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.

I was employed in a project organisation from my first day. The project was in the offshore execution phase, which resulted in a lot of offshore trips during my first 6 months in the company. All the offshore experience gave me a good introduction in how Subsea 7 works, and how important good engineering and planning are for a successful execution of the offshore operation.

Later I have been working on several projects, where I gradually have gained more and more responsibility. My job as an installation engineer is to prepare procedures which describe the tasks to be performed by the offshore crew. The job gives me new challenges every day where I have contact with other engineering disciplines, follow up subcontractors and communication with the client.

What I like about working in Subsea7 is the good working atmosphere, with a lot of humour and friendliness. If you’re having a bad day when you arrives the office, it will not take long before good colleagues cheering you up with jokes and support. In addition the combination of working both in the office, on site and offshore gives a varying job, where I have the opportunity to learn from both experienced engineers and offshore personnel.

Alette Alvheim, Norway

I started working with Subsea 7 in July 2003, just after I graduated from marine technology at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. For the first months I had some small jobs in projects and a few trainee offshore trips, but soon I got a more permanent role as a part of a project organisation.

My first project was installation of a flexible riser, and after that I have mainly been working with flexibles and umbilicals during my time in Subsea 7.
In the first projects my responsibility was mainly the installation analyses reports. I was then calculating the environment forces acting on to the product during the installation and forming the environmental and operational criteria for the operation.
In my latest projects my responsibility has been developed to be a more total flexible engineer. I was then involved in fabrication and design, installation analyses and engineering.

It is a good working environment in the Tananger office, I constantly meet new challenges and get the opportunity to develop my skills.
